Desktop Graphic Capture & Save

These programs were inspired in part by GrabScreenPortion posted by Elroy. GrabIt is a 2 part system designed to run in the System Tray, and when clicked on to capture the screen. GrabIt will check to see if it is already running (CheckUnique). It then activates and places itself in the System Tray as an Icon. By default it initially ends up in the Hidden section, and must be dragged over to the visible part. On Win 11, that process is a little different. There is no empty space available, so you have to drag it to the space above the "^" symbol. To have this feature available all the time, you can autoload it at startup.

To activate the Screen grab, simply click on the GrabIt Icon in the System Tray. This activates Grab_It.exe, which copies the Desktop and any windows displayed, disables the Taskbar, resizes itself to the screen size, and displays as a form. At this point, you can draw a rectangle around any part of the display with the mouse. When you release the mouse, the selected part will display near the centre of the screen. From there you can save the selected part as a file or copy it to the clipboard.

I don't really know why, but for some reason Defender on Win 11 will recognize "GrabIt.exe" as Trojan:Win32/Vibem.C and quarantine it. For a further explanation see:

When you run Grab_It.vbp in the IDE, it will display VB6. To get the Desktop only, minimize VB6 and use F5 to start the program. This will only work if you have no other programs running on the Desktop.
